WiMAX licence holders warned to use or lose it

Published: Thursday July 30, 2009 MYT 2:39:00 PM

KUALA LUMPUR: The three companies holding WiMAX licences that have yet to roll out their services have been warned that they risk losing their licences.

Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said the Government has the right to revoke the licences if the companies did not roll out their services by year-end, especially to Sabah and Sarawak.

The terms of their licences require it, he added.

He said he has instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to look into the issue and review the licences of the three.

Four companies were awarded the 2.3GHz spectrum, allowing them to offer wireless broadband services using WiMAX technology, in 2007.

The companies are Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd, REDtone International Bhd, YTL e-Solutions Bhd and Asiaspace Dotcom Sdn Bhd.

So far, only Packet One has rolled out it service in a major way, while YTL and Asiaspace have had limited rollouts.

The news above was released earlier today.

My thoughts:

1) Why in the first place such licenses are awarded to such companies?

2) Shouldn't the Government do some form of Due Diligence before awarding any licenses?

3) Shouldn't they monitor the development of all license holder on a frequent basis? Is FOUR (4) companies too much for a big department like them?

4) Even with P1 having launch its WiMAX, the network coverage is still not up to standard. So what they are in Wireless KL? I stay in KL but still my area IS not covered by P1. Ya ... progressively increasing the coverage. My foot. Till today P1 still a loser at my place.

Are Bosses God?

Have we really thought of the main reason why we leave a company for another company?

Money…

Prospect…

Bosses…

Initial thought will be money and prospect. But if you think back, you will feel and know that it is due to your superior which is categorized as boss here.

Bosses, you can’t work without them and they can’t work without you.

So who are these bosses? Their main responsibility here is to take care of their subordinate and in return the subordinate will pledge their loyalty to the bosses if not to the company. But what if the subordinate pledges their loyalty to the bosses but the bosses in return ill-treat them like scolding them in front of the customer even after pre-alignment meeting or putting all the blames on them just because the bosses are practicing CYA (Covering Your Ass)?

The answer will be; you can't do anything as they are your bosses. If you are against them your promotion and performance reward or even your future in the company will be affected.

Hence, I raised my concern over the role and responsibility of the bosses.

Maxis Broadband

Maxis is one of the leading company to obtain 3G and broadband license years ago. Yet everything seems to remain antique.

I subscribed Maxis broadband (e220) in March 2009 with the stylish hip-hop design. Was told to have the speed of 7.2mbps by the salesperson & communication paper. Till date my average speed is less than 700kbps.

Having bearing an innocent mind, I went home, plugged-in, installed it & everything seemed to be fine. Speed was acceptable at about 2mbps @ Paramount, PJ. But a different story at another location which is Pantai Dalam, KL where the speed is less than 1mbps. Still acceptable until 3 weeks ago.

Speed was at an absurd snail pace of 30kbps. Even slower than dial-up. Doesn't even make any sense. It becomes worse when I can't log into the internet not even into www.google.com.my.

Initial thought was that I exceeded the limit of 3 GB or I forgotten to clear the bill.

But no.

Then I called maxis at 123. Lodged reports & complaint bout the situation last Sunday, 22/6/09. Was told to do this & that but still remains same. Was told that technician will call me back. They did called but with another problem NOT solution.

After about 6 working days I did not receive any calls from Maxis & I have to call them back (28/6/09). Then only they told me my area Pantai Dalam was having network problem.

Of course, that's not the case. I then questioned the customer service; What bout PJ & Shah Alam? She said NO problem. But I’m always at such area & the problem persists. Basically, they are creating stories to cheat us. Hence, I gave them an ultimatum to call me back by 12pm on 29/6/09 for solution. As expected from Maxis, no calls.

Is this fair to consumers like us? I am paying RM98 monthly for its services but yet what I got was paying extra & wasting more money calling them.

Can't they be more proactive to contact their customers?

Can't you speak the truth and just admit your mistake?

Unless you, Maxis are willing to wave the monthly subscription fee according to the days I’m not able to use the service, then I’m fine.

Lies brings you nowhere.

Quality Service, Quality Life

Everyday in our life we are consciously or unconsciously being sold / selling and serviced / servicing. Whatever we do, we cannot escape from it.

I always believe that quality service is the root of all success in any industries. There is no doubt in it. Hence, my idea to start this blog to voice out dissatisfaction, made complains and give feedback. It will also function as a place to inform readers of the issues faced.

Quality Service, Quality Life.

Cheers.
